According to about.com cable modem, in terms of raw speed beat out dsl hands down. Cable modem speeds can support upto 30 mbs while dsl can only handle upto 10 mbs in most areas. Real world cases are different though, with cable modems you have to share the same connection with your whole community as opposed to DSL which is a static line, so you will get the same output constantly. On top of all this, the ISP's can cap your speed from 30 mbs all the way down to 3 mbs. This is why you should constantly checking you internet speed and make sure your broadband is running at the best possible speeds. If they aren't, you should call your ISP and complain.

How fast is your internet connection? have you ever tried to look, Give it a shot, see where you go with it. Mine i found out does 10mbs which im very happy for. You should check yours, it could be slower then your paying for! When i first started testing my Cable connection I would tinker with the settings that you have on the computer, and test it again. Through trial and error i made my internet connection 25% faster then what it was before.

According to broadbandinfo the best way to tweak your broadband settings is through the registry in windows. There are many programs out there that you can use to be able to do just that.
